Blue Chips Full Court Press – Week of 07/18/2022

Head Coach John Calipari took to Twitter this week to give the Big Blue Nation an update on many FAQ circulating. First, he announced the annual Women’s Clinic is back this year. He says that his wife Ellen will be involved and hopefully both of his daughters as well — a date will be announced soon. He also announced that the Coaches Clinic will be back this year — it will be live streamed and a date will be announced for that shortly. Lastly, Cal announced that the Big Blue Madness campout will be making a return after taking a 2-year hiatus due to Covid — “It is unacceptable to not have a campout. It is part of what makes UK Basketball special. We have some great ideas on how, where and when that will make it tremendous. Unless there is some sort of road block, campout will return”. A date has not been set on the campout either, but it typically is the first week of September.

The AAU event of the Summer is underway in Augusta with the 2022 Nike Peach Jam. Kentucky commit Robert Dillingham has been leading the way thus far for Team CP3. 2023 targets DJ Wagner (NJ Scholars), Justin Edwards (Team Final), and Aaron Bradshaw (NJ Scholars) have been putting on a show as well. Kentucky is still the overwhelming favorite for all three of these 2023 targets. #3 ranked Edwards is set to make his college choice on the 25th, the Monday after Peach Jam. #1 recruit DJ Wagner is expected to pledge his allegiance to Kentucky shortly after Edwards. Bradshaw is not the UK lock he was once thought to be — this could be a result of Ugonna Kingsley’s rumored silent commit to Kentucky. The plan with Kingsley as of now is that he will reclassify to play with the team this year and redshirt, getting great experience behind NPOY Oscar Tshiebwe. Kingsley is taking a visit on the 20th – do not be surprised if his commitment is announced then.

CJ Frederick announced that he plans to play in the four games in the Bahamas when Kentucky goes down next month from August 8th-14th. BBN is eager to see the three-point sniper in game action for the first time since transferring from Iowa — Frederick sat out all of last season to rehab a leg injury.

Lastly, former Cat Keldon Johnson is the latest Kentucky guy to earn his worth in the NBA. Johnson recently signed a 4-year $80 million extension with the San Antonio Spurs. Former UK Players during the Calipari era’s contracts now amass over $3.6 BILLION!
