The Cats are going bowling! Last Sunday, Kentucky finally discovered their destination and opponent for this year’s bowl game. To the surprise of many, they are getting the extremely rare opportunity to rematch with last year’s Citrus Bowl opponent, the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Kentucky’s No Stranger to the Music City Bowl
We all know how it went down last time around:
Let’s run it back ‼️🔁

The rematch will take place on New Year’s Eve down in Nashville for the Music City Bowl. Music City Bowl in Nashville is an event that has become so familiar to the Big Blue Nation. This will be Kentucky’s sixth time playing in the Music City Bowl since 1999:
- 1999: (L) Kentucky 13 – Syracuse 20
- 2006: (W) Kentucky 28 – Clemson 20
- 2007: (W) Kentucky 35 – Florida State 28
- 2009: (L) Kentucky 13 – Clemson 21
- 2018: (L) Kentucky 23 – Northwestern 24
The Cats and Music City have always been a very entertaining combo, with every single one of those bowl games coming down to the final possession. This year should be no different, as Kentucky looks to extend its bowl game winning streak to five in a row.
Earlier this week, star QB Will Levis confirmed he will sit out this weekend in preparation for the NFL Draft. He will be on the sideline for Kentucky and to support and aid whoever the Cats choose to go with at both QB and OC. Star RB Chris Rodriguez also announced that he will sit out – he and Levis together accounted for over 75% of Kentucky’s total offense this season. Iowa will be starting their third-string QB for the matchup, as well as being thin at other skill positions like the Cats.
